Baikal Lake
The southern tip of Ogoy Island is one of the most dynamic rock formations that I've seen. The shape of the rock changes dramatically with only slight changes in your position. The compositions are infinite!
Shamanka Rock
Shamanka Rock is a spiritual place on Olkhon Island. This overlook is located near the villiage of Khuzir.
Baikal Lake
Elenka Island appears to be little more than the craggy tip of a rock protruding through the ice of Baikal Lake.
Baikal Lake
The icicles that form in the rocks that line Baikal Lake can look downright evil, especially when distorted by a wide angle lens. Thanks to my model, Vladimir, for posing for me!
Baikal Lake
The ice caves along the shorelines of Baikal Lake were amazing! And, I have to admit, a little creepy at night. Thanks to my model, Alexander, for posing for me. This wasn't an easy modeling situation!
Baikal Lake
In this icefield near the northern end of Olkhon Island, I had a very personal journey in the exploration of light. The light was pure magic as it passed through the clear blocks of ice. The ice glowed as if it were electrified!
Baikal Lake
The wind is so strong that blocks of ice weighing hundreds of pounds were stacked against the shore like potato chips on a tabletop.
Baikal Lake
These stone pilings on Ogoy Island must have a sacred signifance. At least that is how I felt as I quietly strolled among them on this early morning.
Baikal Lake
Yet another composition at the southern tip of Ogoy Island. Such a fantastic subject.
Baikal Lake
My buddy Rob and I shared this ice cave on the last night of the trip. I worked the cameras and he worked the lights. We both envisioned the shot together. It was a great time!
Baikal Lake
Elenka Island in the warm glow of a sunrise. Olkhon Island lies in the distance. The sunrise lasted a long time due to our latitude and the time of year. A photographer's paradise!
Baikal Lake
Another shot in the series of images that revealed themselves to me during a long, slow, glorious sunset!
Baikal Lake
The stupa on Ogoy Island. Cold temperature. Strong wind. The warm glow of a pending sunrise. Intense joy.
Baikal Lake
This tree near the village of Khuzir is filled with strength and character. There was no color in the sunrise on this morning, so I visualized this image in a graphic high key format. It turned out exactly as I visualized it!!
Baikal Lake
The human element is essential in these images to provide a sense of scale. Amazing ice!
Baikal Lake
This trip was my first experience with ice caves. I know it won't be my last!!
Baikal Lake
The tree on this mound near the overlook for Shamanka Rock is stunning. This image conveys a foreboding message. Maybe we should listen.
Baikal Lake
Another composition from the southern tip of Ogoy Island. I told you that the compositions are infinite here! I have to give my buddy Rob credit for this one. He saw this composition and worked hard to get it just right. I waited until he was done, then set up right next to him. I really love this shot. Nice eye, Rob!
Baikal Lake
I created this image during my first foray onto the ice. It was such an incredible experience. Especially when the ice creaks and moans and cracks nearby. You're really in no danger, but still, it was easy to freak out a little when that happens!
Baikal Lake
I had only a few minutes to grab this image or risk delaying the group. I really love this image. The blue glow and the crystalline appearance of the ice are mesmerizing to me.
